The Little Dojo and Visayan Eskrima

It has been such a good friendship between the little dojo and Sonny Umpad and Visayan Eskrima. From time to time Renato comes to Walla Walla to train with us sharing the Visayan Eskrima with our group and learning Fook Yueng Chuan.

This week have been thinking about my Friend Suki Gosal. Suki is an amazing martial artist and teacher of Opera Style / Red Boat Wing Chun and teacher of Non Classical Gung Fu near Vancouver, B.C. Suki is a Student of Martial arts and related things. That to me is the highest of compliments. Martial Art is unfathomable.

In our children's class for years we talked about this concept. Mission in the little things. Gene Burnett just wrote this really great article on Mission.

Thanks to Kelly S. Worden for a new experience today. Datu Worden invited me to interview with him on his radio program "On the Edge". It was really nice to remember our teachers and friends. The interview will be played tomorrow for AM listeners from 12 to 1 Pacific Time. It will also be available to stream the program from the Radio Station Web page at that same time. http://klay1180.com/localshows.html

Integrity

Integrity is a fairly small word but a big concept.  Integrity comes from having a true spirit.

A dojo owes several bits of integrity.

It owes the students that train there good training, it owes the art integrity to insure that it is passed on well and to people who have a true spirit, and students owe the teacher respect and curiosity.  If this does not happen chaos instead happens.  If things are taught to people in a way that they have lots of skill before they have developed true spirit you have trained a fighter, and training a fighter is not the purpose of a dojo.

The purpose of a dojo is to provide a place for us to hone our skills for sure but more importantly it is a place to refine our characters.
